Monticello's new visitor center earns LEED Gold certification  |  November 4, 2009
The Thomas Jefferson Foundation has been awarded LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center and Smith Education Center at Monticello. The Monticello facility is the first visitor center at a World Heritage site in the United States and one of only five visitor centers in the country to earn LEED Gold certification. More »

1776 copy of Declaration of Independence on display today at Monticello  |  October 14, 2009
The only touring copy of the Declaration of Independence that dates to July 4, 1776, will be on view at the home of the document’s author on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The printed copy of the Declaration – a “broadside” sheet printed in Philadelphia only hours after Thomas Jefferson’s final draft was adopted by the Second Continental Congress – will be displayed at Monticello’s Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center and Smith Education Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The viewing in the visitor center’s Theater will be open to the public free of charge.
